Mataji Gurupriyananda

(1939-2016)

Mataji Gurupriyananda came to Coonoor in 1980 and has served the Kendra for more than 40 years. The Kendra, where Vedanta is taught in the traditional way of teaching, in a setup which is as modern as it is traditional. Students come here and live with the teacher, learning as much from living in the Kendra as from the teaching. 

The Kendra was formalized in 1980 by Mataji Gurupriyananda. Mataji Gurupriyananda, along with teaching, started a seva tradition as well.

Swamini Jeevanmuktananda Saraswati is the President and Chief Acharya of Sri Sarada Brahmavidya Kendra, Coonoor. Swamini is a student disciple of Param Pujya Swami Dayanananda Saraswati. Being an ardent teacher of Vedanta, Sanskrit, Yoga and Vedic Chanting, many a classes are conducted at the Kendra by Chief Acharya.

 

Swamini, while remembering Param Pujya Swami Dayanananda Saraswati, says in Swamiji’s own words, "That you are the whole is the view of the Vedas. ALL THAT IS HERE IS ISVARA is another way of expressing this vision or view. The way of life means a life style with right attitudes and values which help you discover the vision that you are the whole.”

Swamini Jeevanmuktananda Saraswati

  • The Kendra houses female students coming from an economically weak background, with a single parent or no parents. Accommodation is free of cost for them to pursue their studies. 

  • The Kendra provides educational scholarship for meritorious students of Nilgiris, coming from an economically weak background.

  • The Kendra is a temporary shelter for destitute women.

Goddess Saraswati Temple

Brahmavidya Kendra is blessed by the presence of the Goddess Saraswati (Sarada).

Goddess Saraswati is goddess of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom and learning.

“सरस्वति महाभागे विद्ये कमललोचने । 

विद्यारूपे विशालाक्षि विद्यां देहि नमोस्तुते ॥"

“I pray to Goddess Saraswati, the most glorious one with lotus-eyes, the divine manifestation of knowledge, to bless me with wisdom and intelligence and bestow upon me the glories of the entire world."
